SEA BASS, they just approved a 5 SB limit in state waters from Nov1 to Dec 31 for Mass to NJ. I believe we are bound to this b/c we catch in Federal but pass thru State waters... THIS IS RIDICULOUS! Only NJ and NY opposed...SMH:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::m ad::mad:

They obviously want the sea bass fishery to be shut down. The Magnuson-Stevens act does not benefit the fish or the fishermen. They set limits and then they keep changing the goal line. I am so fed up with these clowns. When will we finally get responsible fishery management?

Hate to say it BUT we get what we refuse to fight for! Posting a complaint on a fishing site doesn't constitute fighting for regulations. Not implying its you the original poster , its all of us. We have been preaching for years to get involved , go on a fund raiser trip. write letters, call etc and 10% of the fishing community acts, 90 % complains.
We are and have always been our own worst enemy

Not surprised as we have given them NOTHING to worry about or stop.

Get off your ASS already

I agree with you, but I had no idea seabass would be a issue this year since the numbers are above the desired levels even for Magnuson-Stevens levels from what I was told. Am I mistaken?

And by the way I am always available for a good protest or letter writing campaign when it comes down to saving our fishing rights.

We should ask that DR.Pierce from Mass be removed from any ruling regarding NY or NJ it's a unfair advantage to both states & favors his state. Sea Bass are usually gone by that time in Mass & they get them early season while our season's not even open yet. Plus they reap benefits of the poundage Quota they catch bigger fish & reduce ours. We should demand he gets fired or taken off the board. Bullard should be removed as well we need to see these people loose their jobs they are ones who need to be audited somebody is being paid off follow the money & follow the abuse.

Seems like if they had there way they'd have us not fishing at all... The stocks are rebuilt, we had high levels of recruitment the past few years and they are threatening another closure???

Something is not adding up here and the very people we pay our hard earned tax dollars to manage this resource are taking it away from us.

Time for us to take back this fishery!!

This is what everyone thinks nation wide. They want to shut Florida down also. The state of Louisiana has there politicians fighting for them. They take no shit from NOAA. I wish i could say the same for NJ and Florida.

Sal - I have to differ with you on NJ, at least we had the guts to stand up to NOAA on the Fluke issue and let them know enough is enough... We have the NJDEP and the Governor and some local politicians behind us as well... I was hoping other states would join us but they caved....

buy more fillet knives.we have to "fight" for what is God given, then lets fight.
this has gone way to far and i for one will not spend another dime or minute of my time playing this game.i know and respect allot of good folks on this site who work hard on these matters and i mean no disrespect to them or their cause but enough of the "take & take" game for me.

Rocky - You are correct, according to their own numbers, Sea Bass are rebuilt so why are they talking about a closure??

I agree Jerry but now not when this started. If our politician were with us from the start it might be different. I am glad NJ has some support now and i hope it is not too late!

I've already posted several times how to get their attention and win our fishing rights back ( it wasn't writing letters and taking surveys). I'll try again when you guys get a little more worked up.

I read the NOAA website : Black Sea Bass rebuilt and not overfished.
So in turn we get more cuts, I'm so over salt water fishing.
What next, limits on False Albacore ??

This being the basis for my rant here and on FB posts that the individuals in power are abusing their power by placing the regulations having detrimental outcomes to the hard working individuals in the recreational fishing industry....They need to be reeducated on the science to understand the facts or be removed from the board. Our meetings mean NOTHING!!!! Sorry to say it. has one yet to have a positive outcome??? Have we attained a status quo for a season???? Thank you to all who do get involved, just not seeing the end result turning in our favor.....And yes, I have also taken a stance and attempted to contact individuals for a change....

Since I fought hard for the 200 mile limit in 70's , I've tried go do my part @'some level thei the last 40 seasons .
However their was never enough interest in saving our fisheries from the pool
anglers that are directly affected !
These days I choose to charter & PB , fish since I sold my last boat . Here's any eye opener if you ask this ? around the boat , do u know the size &'bag limits on species ur fishing for today , 50% in most cases do not ! Don't even bother asking how many called their congressman on these same issues , that's a complete joke
If we had put up a front from the start we would be fishing under much different circumstances today but indifference on the part of most anglers coupled to lack of organized efforts & in fighting among various groups made us a very easy target to take down ! So here we are the majority still don't give
a s-----t !
You have no idea what u had , we had some of the very best whiting , ling , cod , fluke , weakfish & flounder ground fishing on the east coast .
200 mile limit killed it , we let the rest get away from us probably for good !
Many never had the opportunity to catch a bag full of whiting in site of Ambrose lightship , or load up on fluke on the flats in raritan bay along with weakfish !
This time of year bag full of ling at the cedars , ocean flunking very good later in season !
Could go on & on for what never see it again !

Just a quick question Since sea bass season
Has multiple time frames in the same year
Why take the cuts out of one part of it
In my opinion although not necessary to
Reduce the limit why not make the spring
Season and winter season the same limit

i have one question,if the gov agencies know they are using old data and know
that certain fish stock are rebuilt then why do we have to keep fighting to remind them.......or is it that they just could care less.
