Managed to squeeze in a couple trips in the last week. Hit separate shed lakes on Friday and Monday. Friday was sunny and 80* while Monday was overcast and a bit cooler. Found decent action both days. First trip was a pickerel fest!! Wasn't bad considering only one out of 8 came in under 20" and I caught it by the boat launch waiting for someone else to unload. Couple of them were FAT!!! One looked like it just ate a big sunny by shape of its gut. Only one smallie came to the net that day, about 15", but it had also been eating well. Also, just as we were getting ready to leave, we heard some rustling in the brush and looked up to see a large black bear foraging along the shoreline! Was really cool to watch him flip over rocks and dig around in the leaves looking for food. That is until he looked our way and took a few more steps until his front paws were in the water. That's when we decided to move along!!!!

Monday the smallies outnumbered the pickerel although one of the 2 pickerel was the biggest of both days at almost 30". The fun started with double smallies within 10 mins of getting started!!! Also managed a second doubles on the day with a perch pickerel combo (also my favorite pic). Topped that off by wrangling my PB Waldo!! Wasn't a beast but was bigger than my 1 other! :D I thought it looked like a post spawn fish by the girth and worn out tail but I didn't think they spawned in this lake. Unless they're just "dry humping"?? :p

Photo bucket sucks. Even if they don't succesfully spawn doesn't mean they won't lay eggs or go through the motions. Nice pickerel, can't wait to see the pics. Go rangers!

Awesome Report. Heading up to the shed this Monday to renew the permits and possibly check out the shed with the Eyes. Fished the other 3 and love the smallmouth & Pickerel action.
Any pointers for catching an Eye? it's on my To Do list for 2017.

just to clarify you caught the pickerel and perch at the same time?

I figured the walleye were just going through the motions. Glad it was overcast and this fish was hungry enough to be feeding somewhat shallow.

Squatch, yeah, we were chucking spinnerbaits and had a bait rod out with a shiner. I hooked the pickerel on the lure and in the commotion we drifted in shallow. Once the pick was in the net the bait rod folded over and a Jumbo perch was landed as well. Surprisingly, both were pretty cooperative for the shot and were released....... :D

Oh, and it's nice to see the Rangers hold a lead!! Great game though! LGR!!!!!
