4/15 - MUSHIN bypassed on the cod wrecks, and fished for golden tiles in a local canyon with the Charter of Howie A, Leif, JD, Brian Buddha Sticks, Lou and Rueben. The guys were all smiles with a pick of golden tiles going on. Then JD's tilefish rod doubled over. Capt. Chad yelled up that the fish was taking drag - lots of drag! We fired up the boat and chased the fish over the next 2 hours, covering 1.3 miles as the seagull flies, and had it top and within about 50 yards four different times. Despite all's best efforts, the tilefish rig was no match for what was undoubtedly a nice tuna. The leader broke just above the hook on the hi-lo tilefish rig. This was certainly more excitement than we planned, but that's what we've learned to expect in any canyon adventure! Even with "losing" two hours to the tuna battle, the guys still boxed up some nice tiles!

Another great offshore trip. Ended the day with a nice cooler full of tiles and the Sword/bluefin hookup was really exciting.

Cape May Big Eyes next month?
