If you could only choose 5 inshore salt water lures for casting and jigging, what would they be?
Here's my list:
1) Ava diamond jig. Probably the most versatile lures ever. Bounce it off the bottom, vertical jig it or cast and retrieve. I've caught Seabass, Blues, Stripers and Fluke on them. If I only had one choice this would be it.
2) Bucktails are also very versatile, bounce them off the bottom or swim them, tip with gulp, strip baits, clams whatever. Best for bottom dwellers like Fluke and great for Blackfish and Seabass too. I've also caught Stripers, Blues and Mahi on them too.
3) Storm Shads are great when the fish are up and feeding and my go to lure when casting into birds working bait fish.
4) Savage sandeel lures. This one does not get used as frequently but when the Stripers are feeding on Sandeels in the fall, this is a must have. Been out several times where this is practically the only thing they'd touch.
5) Surface poppers and everyone has their own favorite. There's nothing more exciting then watching a big Striper or Bluefish explode on your lure. Popping does take some energy but the noise and commotion they make on the surface of a flat ocean or bay will often trigger strikes like no other.
