I will be in Vietnam and am looking for a decent boat probably out of Hoi An or DaNang. Everything I am finding are tourist trips with a stop to fish an hour around Cham Island.

Probably a long shot but has anyone fished the area, I see some good videos of jigging and popping but all have been in other languages and just clips of trips without boat names or any kind of contact.

Why would I be kidding? Doing some research on some ancient temples and will be in the area where there is world class fishing.

Should be an unforgettable trip. I'm watching Jeremy wade in Cambodia right now.

Vietnam has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Maybe they still have a big shrimp industry? Not sure. Heard it's world class fishing. I wish you good luck. Post pictures.

We used to go out on small boats from DaNang harbor in '65 and early '66. We had some rods from Special Services on the base and the boat owner and his wife out fished us using hand lines. We caught a lot of 'red snappers' or something that looked like them and then grilled them at the O Club. Looking back it was pretty good fishing but can't recall any over four pounds.
A friend from a previous base in the States was stationed at Cam Ranch Bay and he said the fishing there was excellent.
Went back about two years ago and recommend the Essence Hotel in Hoi An. They have excellent concierge service and they might be able to help you.

Follow Cindy Nguyen on Facebook. She recently went on a trip there and posted a lot. Maybe if you drop her a line, she'll give you some advice.

There is excellent fishing by Colonel Kurtz's old place. Can miss it.

There's a helicopter crashed into the trees right after the B-52 tail in another set of trees. LMAO

Why would you be "LMAO" about a crashed 'chopper and B-52??? Some of our guys probably died in those crashes....or am I missing something?

Thanks for the advice, we have booked La Residence already but I am certainly not afraid to ask them. I have a few leads now and not one of them is a guy named Charlie so I think they are legit.
I see those small fish on a few of the tourist trips, I have found a few that target other game species. I will keep digging in.

Definitely missing something. Its a scene from the movie Apocalypse Now. Movies are not real.

Cuppola did not really kill actors to put them inside a fake planes and helicopters in that scene. And Colonel Walter Kurtz was really Marlon Brando not an actual Colonel in Special Forces killed by Martin Sheen who called himself Captain Willard. I'm sorry if the movie or this news offended you. But the surfing scene was all too real listening to Ride of the Valkyries.

Contact our embassy there, they should be willing to help a visiting American. Not like it's a hot spot anymore, probably happy to have something to do.
