Got out on the non sponsor "D" yesterday with a big blow form the west. Very rough seas and very poor fishing conditions. Most on the boat were sick. The captain and crew worked hard and put us on some nice pieces. About a dozen or so Cod and Pollock keepers on board. Nothing over 10 lbs, but a reasonable catch given the very rough seas. Also a 5lb blackfish that ha to go back, along with many dogs, sea ravens and bergalls. I am glad I got out anyway- the forecast out to next week in not good. Not a single ling on board? Where the heck are they?

Endangered dogfish ate them.

from all indications, ling have become a summertime deep water wreck dwelling species,,, no longer on inshore open bottom in cold water, and on deep water wrecks during summer.. personally, I think the numbers are pretty far down from what they were historically, but a lot of much better fishermen than I am disagree, and say the catch coolers full in summer in the Mud Hole... All I know for sure is that they were a winter mainstay for a very long time, but that has changed... bob

Ha - I remember when no one wanted ling and the party boats would move to concentrate on whiting during the winter season off the beach.

Man sucks we don't have ling around... Great eating fish. I think commercial / recreational fishing probably put a decent beating on them over the years... I'm the dogs and other predators have there fill too... I wouldn't oppose a bag limit of like 25 ling... I never saw the need for a single person to need more. They freeze poorly too

Agreed. The problem with size limits is most are doomed once you hook them. in the deep water. they all come to the surface with thier guts hanging out of their mouths.

Probably see the "season" closed at peak fishing times, and bag limits though... bob
