The echo chamber effect of this forum is astounding. Fly the pirate flag, fillet and release, kill short fluke before tossing them back...F the rules indeed.

Bravo. Gold star.

Not sure what the big deal is. Charter boats run c&r tog trips when the season is closed but someone catches some schoolies before the season opens and people are asking for the game wardens. #fairweatherfishermandontcatchshit

Exactly... freaking out over C&R schoolies, yet if it were open season and a deck full of bloody 35 pound roe laden females were shown, that would be fine, actually it would be admired.... whatever...

I was always under the impression the season only closed in the rivers. I thought there was no closed season in New Jersey salt water stripers.

No impression - that is the truth - no closed season on stripers or winter flounder

There is no closed season for stripers in the ocean but everywhere else in NJ (bays, rivers, inlets) it is closed from 1/1-2/28(or 29). There are special regulations which prohibit you from targeting them during the closed season even if you release them. However, the burden of proof falls on the State to prove you were fishing for stripers. The only way they can do that is if you admit you were fishing for them. Like someone else said, if you say you are fishing for blues or whatever there is nothing they can do.
Also, for most other species such as tog and fluke, it is perfectly legal to target they during the closed season as long as you release them.

Nice fish. Just stating a fact the season is closed. We have been down this road many times before, just think before you post. Many are not aware there is a closed season, but there is. Do not want to anyone get in trouble.

Soft plastics for targeting Bluefish? I guess he's trying to find a reasons to get new ones?

A mistake I'm sure.

last I checked Jersey regs went three miles off shore. That should cover most beach casting distance. LOL

I'm sure no NJ boats will be on the NY side of the reach fishing bass before April 15........

are you allowed catch and release in NY before 4/15? I recall this being discussed on the other forum. It seems like C&R is ok below the GW bridge or something like that.

There is no closed season from the shore to 3 miles out. The rivers open up March first. If you are lucky enough to catch a keeper from Jan 1st to Feb. 28th you can keep it. The bays and rivers not until Mar 1st.
