it's hard to tell from the posts here on the board, i feel like there is a wide gap. you see lots of limits, but often from the same guys... but there are also plenty of complaints about empty coolers... plus usually only guys who have good days and take pictures make reports, etc. it has come up in some of the management discussions so i wondered...

how usual is it for you all to limit on fluke when you go out? (people can't see your answers so might as well be honest)

I answered this question on another forum, and based on my logs:

2016 I made 25 fluking trips on the kayak, mostly RB proper with 4 trips out of SH bayside. I averaged 3.08 keepers per trip over the course of the season, which included 5 limits and 1 donut. 2 trips I caught over limit (orl). 5 fish over 5lbs, 2 over 6lbs, and 1 over 7lbs, so nothing huge but still a solid year for size.

2011, the last year bag limit was 8 fish...my average was 4.2 (also with a pair of 8lb fish + my PB @#9.7). The years in between I failed to break 3.0, with 2014 my worst year @1.6 lol...

Anyway, imo most people (myself included) tend to inflate their recollection of limits. Over the course of a season, you start doing mental gymnastics, adding up the over-limit days to your 1 keeper/skunk days. A simple log will keep you honest.

We are talking a personal limit here, not a limit for the boat, correct?

Limiting every time or almost every time? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! The guy who answered "Yes" to that must be that same guy I see on the Manasquan jetty that puts everything he catches in the bucket!

C'mon, man.

yeah personal limit. everybody has their own way to fish, private boat, party boat, kayak, surf, whatever just wondered overall how people do

Yeah that's pretty cool to have your numbers available and to be able to go back to the log like that. I tried for a few years but couldn't keep it updated. I should try again now with an app or something.

No PB boats never limit the entire boat. Over the years i only limited a six pack charter on occasion. The expertise of the group of anglers has alot to do with it. Limiting out with fluke is not easy. Stripers, blues and sea bass are a ''little easier''as far as limits go.The same with blackfish. Big difference between a four man charter and fifty anglers on a party boat.

I would say the guys I tourney fish with limit out more often than not.
we had a few trips that werent as productive, but on tourney days we crushed the fish..
seems on those days we really get keyed in on the bite.
so went with limiting out 3/4 trips

for doubters like J Bird
pics are here , look in August and July reports

Tom and I fished for Fluke fourteen times last season, Tom limited once, total for both of us twenty-seven keeper Fluke. We hope to get out more this season as boat problems kept us at the slip. Pete

Never had a day I didn't limit out on my boat.

Fishing on party boats I'd say 1 on in every 3 trips, but last year was 1 in 2, if not a little bit more then that. On charters I'd say it's 3 out of 4 for me personally.

I'd say you're right 99.9% of the time, but I was on a 3/4 trip out of Morgan years ago that limited the boat by noon (maybe 18 anglers? even the rental rods limited), and the very same day's PM trip limited the boat as well.

In fact, I think there were more than a few party boat limits that same week, the whole fleet was there for the tail end of it...that channel bite turned RB into Nantucket for a few days.

Nope Larry, that response was all me......I follow Frugals way of thinking.

I'm one of the 52+%ers. Of course I'm a bait dragger-always have been...Just glad to be out on the water with a line in...If I get a keeper(rarely) that's a bonus...it used to be I was the robin, skate & clam shell catcher---dirty job but someone had to do it so my buds could catch!!! Now, offshore I'm not quite so cavalier!!!!! I'm convinced that the volunteer scribes descend on a given weekend when everyone is out, make their tally and this is used as the standard for the week/month/season. Everyone fishes 7 days a week and almost always limits. Numbers are so flawed, especially with the final "stock assessment". Not just fluke, but ALL the fisheries. There needs to be a thorough house cleaning in ALL the agencies, the sooner the better--needed it years ago!!!!!!!!!!! My 2 cents.....

That happens but not very often. If you asked a capt. that runs a PB he would have that date in the log book as one out of a hundred.

Guess its true that 10% of the fisherman catch 90% of the fish

Years ago the size limit was probably 16 1/2 inches, impossible today at 18-19 inches for a Party Boat.....No Way, No How.

This was the first or second year of 8@18"

Definitely a freak occurrence for RB.

I fish out of Manasquan inlet . 2016 Lots of river trips for me with ocean trips mixed in July/August. I did 38 trips all together from my log. Many were half day. I had 2 limits from the river in 25 trips and 3 limits from the ocean in 13 trips. AND this was better than 2015 !

Some days I limit but usually get at least three, I guess that makes a four fish average.

Six! RB is one good place-some times!

It sure is but has it's seasons....Early in the spring and sometimes in the early summer, back in the Reach on the channel edges you can find larger fish stacked up. We had a few weeks of that last year...
