Any opinions on Garmin vs Lowrance vs Simrad? I am thinking it will be good for finding fluke holding lumps

No limit. Just to let you know, Lowrance and simrad are a company formed by a merger of the 2 companies. I don't have a 3d scanner but have a 12" simrad evo2 with the airmar 175 1kw through hull transducer. The chirp is amazing.

I compared the Simrad EV03 and Lowrance and Garmin and the EVO3 looks like the winner except it does not get to the stores till April
