Please email your comments in by 5 PM on 1/19. If you don't have time to write an elaborate letter, simply say you are opposed to any of the options proposed in the addendum and urge them to leave the 2016 regulations in effect until the new stock assessment comes out.

Notice: Public comment period ends tomorrow at 5:00 p.m
In late 2016, the Summer Flounder, Scup, and Black Sea Bass Management Board approved a motion to initiate the development of an addendum to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan (FMP) for Summer Flounder, Scup, and Black Sea Bass. The addendum will address the recreational management of summer flounder for 2017. This draft addendum presents background on the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s (Commission) management of summer flounder; the addendum process and timeline; and a statement of the problem. This document also provides options of management for public consideration and comment.
NJ DEP Commissioner Bob Martin has issued the following statement in response to these proposed regulations.
“I am greatly disappointed with the actions taken yesterday by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission and the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council, which will make it nearly impossible for recreational anglers to keep any summer flounder they catch. In effect, these actions will result in a moratorium on one of our most important recreational fish species. These current and prior actions taken by the Commission and Council will cripple recreational and commercial fishing in New Jersey and will be felt sharply throughout our shore economy. I strongly urge the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to overturn these actions and keep current regulations in effect, so that all partners can work toward a stable management approach that provides long-term conservation of summer flounder without continually placing New Jersey at a disadvantage to other states.”
The public is encouraged to submit comments regarding this document at any time during the
public comment period. The final date comments will be accepted is January 19, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. Link to Addendum XXVIII: http://www.asmfc.org/…/SummerFlounderDraftAddendumXXVIII_Pu…
