i find it laughable that most of the time everyone is shouting "no regulations ever helped us! the council doesn't know what they're doing! science is fake!" (see latest locked thread)
and then we start getting worried about bunker and it's "take action now" "best available science" "Let the ASMFC know that ecological management is right"
hilarious

Wow! You have the answer. Ever been to a meeting on menhaden? I and many other Captains and people that don't make a living fishing have been to many. More complicated that you think.

I received this in an email from the Hackensack Riverkeeper and asked Gerry to post it. Menhaden are the most important forage species on the East Coast.
If we do NOTHING, Omega Protein will net all the bunker they can for fertilizer & fish oil. Result= no bass, blues, sharks, whales, etc.

yes, i know, and i have no problem with the idea behind the petition.
i just think it's funny all the people who hate the federal govt/regs/council when they don't get what they want (like fluke quotas), but want more involvement when they need something
like with chuck schumer: a caricature of the total slimeball dirtbag politician... but everyone singing his praises because he held one press conference about fishing

While I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of Chuck, that's one more press conference concerning the issue than the other total slimeball dirtbag politicians have held.

My thoughts exactly. If it were up to PEW we would not be able to fish at all. I want to see the Bunker protected but I am not going to throw in with PEW. Any suggestions? There must be some way to support the Bunker without supporting PEW...Charlie

We want to lower the quota of tonnage given to reduction boats and we can't even keep the purse seiners out of Raritan Bay! NY did!!! No netting on there side and it is the same bay. Goes to show how much support NJ gets from politicians. While Booker, Menendez and Christie are doing everything in there power to stop the two fluke limit maybe they could pass legislation to ban bunker boats from Raritan Bay.
