Long short. Bought a boat out of Texas where a title for a trailer isn't necessary. Think I should get one here in NJ which I expect will cost money...and a lot of standing in line. It's a name brand trailer and is registered here.

My question is what will I need to have it titled in my name here in NJ?

Thanks in advance.

Boat trailers aren't titled in NJ. At least the last three I owned were not. Registered only. Last time I went thru it was 2013. Had written bill of sale from previous owner (notarized) and a copy of last reg. No title.

That's what I thought, but then the guy I sold my old ride to reached out about not signing over the trailer title with the boat title. It was sold in NJ new so had me wondering what's up.

Thanks for the info Dan.

A few other thoughts.

Buy the boat and outboard motor with separate prices. You only pay titling fee on the boat, not the outboard motor.

You need to prove that you and the prior owner did not steak it.

Yes NOTARIZED bill of sale.

Having his prior TX trailer registration helps A LOT!! Shows he was the legit owner.
