What a difference a few days make., had completely different fishing the last 3 days. Friday we had out Frank and his crew from pse&g. Got to the grounds early and had that good early morning bite going, and in the dark! Had a ripping current most of the day as well. had that good bite and then in started to slow. Had a mix of shorts all day - and quite a few too. Sat and picked for a while until we decided we had to do something. Made a move and conditions were horrible! Had wind against current and it didn't matter which way we faced we could never stay tight on the anchors. Finally got to where we weren't getting pushed up too bad and picked a few here and there. Put in a few more keepers and then called it. Big fish went 7-8lbs . A much slower day, wasn't great at all but managed a decent catch for the conditions.
Saturday was turned upside down! We were hoping for that good early morning bite once again but nada. The only good thing was that the current was gone this morning. Took at least half an hour to get the first fish in the boat let alone in the box. We were never able to establish a good bite all day. Plucked a few fish here and there. Mostly shorts a keeper here and there. Had the wind pick up early in the day which brought the current back that we had Friday. Sat and grinded for a while and then made a move. Had a few scratches when we first stopped but nothing impressive. We were getting ready to call it but then fish started to chew so we picked up a few more keepers and some shorts until that action shut down and we called it. Mari had the big one of the day just shy of 6 lbs and Sam was HH today with at least 10 keepers. Horrible day for us - and everybody blackfishing today, and by far the slowest of the season. Hopefully tomorrow improves some.
SUN: Had another blackfish trip today to wrap up the weekend. Had a great group of guys and we were hoping to do much better than yesterday. Got set up and had a nice keeper within the first few minutes. Never had a crazy bite going but had a steady pick of keepers and shorts for most of the morning and afternoon. Grinded one piece most of the day and after a late lull we decided to hit up fresh bottom to try and get a few more for our limit, but never happened. Current picked up pretty bad late in the day as well. Ended up a few shy of our limit. HH had 9 and Suk had the big one at 10.5lbs and a couple other fish were in the 8lb range.
