Had the pleasure to get in on a charter on Tagged Fish today. We got to the boat nice and early and got set up. I used to always fish either a single hook or a snafu rig but i think im making the change. I tied a few slider rigs and been using then on the last few trips and dad and I have been doing really well with em so i think thats going to be go to rig for this season. Anyways we made our way to the first spot and got set up. Dad and I were in the sweet spot with the right bait set up bc the bite was savage for us. I dropped down and bam got hammered and got the dollar fish. And it was a nice one at that. Dad follows with a keeper. Then i get a real nice one that came in at 6#! But before I even had my fish in the boat for a second i look over and dads rod is doubled over!! He gets the fish off the bottom and starts to bring it up. Gets about half way and just stops. Fish was pissed!! Took some drag and dad was able to get the best of him and lands a real nice 8# fish. His new PB! He was super excited. We both end up getting 3 keepers a piece on the first drop. I did my usually and missed a few and dropped a few. The current was ripping too. The fish seemed to want the whole white legger smashed to mush. Bite slowed and we made some moves and dad and I got some shorts and missed a few. I got another keeper. Dad followed shortly after with another one. Then the bite got really tough. Really had to fish hard to catch em. Dad got another keeper. I was stuck at 4 and couldnt find those 2 more for a limit. Capt Chad pulled out all the stops and tried everything to get the fish. Gave 110% like always. But i ended the day with 4 keepers to 6#. Dad ended the day with 5 keepers to 8#. We both had a few shorts and missed fish. But over all i had a great time. Got some fish and made some new friends. Be back at it soon.

That is a great report, you mentioned a few important things. Many people concern themselves with rods & reels which are important but bait presentation is paramount. Changing rig style and the way your bait is cut or mushed like you said really works. We were lucky to limit yesterday, finding the stepped in crab the most effective. You also noted lots of current yesterday and on days like that leader length and bait presentation is always changing. Anyway, great report filled with information.

Very nice day!

Getting a bit cold for the kayak, I might have to jump on a charter...not quite ready to end my first tog season
