Guy I work with asked me tonight if I heard anything? Figured I'd post up here and ask.

Told me his buddy walked the sand from North beach on south. Dead crabs the whole way at the high tide line for a long ways.

No other details. Just wondering if anyone has heard/seen/knows anything?

It happens every year around now. December finds red crabs around the jetties which the local stripers eat like candy.

Interesting.... I wonder if anyone ever uses them as bait.

When fishing for Tarpon down in FL we use small blue claws as bait... Hook the crab through the side horn with a large circle hook and live line or fish them under a float. I'd bet that would work around jetties or close to shore in the surf as long as it wasn't too rough and the crab wasn't getting tossed around too much...

For what reason?

When they were once cheap, soft shell crabs were a ago to bait for rockfish in the Chesapeake bay. They were deadly!
