OK, kiddies...buckle up. Today was a day when Capt. Jelly was dialed in......

Left dock at "zero-freaking-dark-and-cold-0600" hours to the promise of a gorgeous Fall/Winter day. Had the mother lode of all regulars on deck including Doctor E, Doctor L (one doctor fixes you if your back is hurting; the other fixes you if you THINK your back is hurting!), Bradley Cooper, Chris "leave the cannoli" Martino, The Ford Twins, Joe Squared, and last but not least, Da Mrs., and Da Mrs vol. 2.

Mike and John handled deck duties, and Capt. Jelly told everyone his plans for the day (catch lots of fish, clean lots of fish, eat lots of good food) and off we went.

By the way: special thanks to Da Mrs. for great hors davories (yeah, thats spelled wrong, but Im too tired to spell check), Bradley for mystery meat on a stick, and Doc E. for da brownies. The cuisine on board today was elevated and Bradley offered to provide butler service but we all declined.

Made a big left turn out the inlet and shortly thereafter Capt. J saw something he liked and we all started snagging and dropping. Did not have the first bait snagged for more than 10 seconds when all hell broke loose with Da Mrs. hooking up and locked in for a fight around the entire boat.

10 seconds is generous; more like 7. After that it was game of thrones ONNNNN!!!!! Multiple hook ups to some of the largest striped carp we ever experienced in one morning.

Folks, if you want your shot at trophy fish, go. NOWWWWWWWWWW!

41 fish later (in about 2 hours), we had a boat limit of barely-unders, and 3 clearly-overs, only keeping our legal limit and gently releasing all others to fight tomorrow. This does NOT include how many we hooked and lost.

Just...sheer stupidity.

Several first time keepers, and several personal bests in just 2.5 hours.

Da Mrs. had her first carp, and Da Mrs. vol.2 had her personal best.

After the action died out for about 5 minutes, Capt. Jelly yelled, "lines up....bite must be over 'cause no one has yelled "fish on" in 4 and a half minutes, so its time to bottom shop".

Moved away from the fleet a ways, found a piece he liked, and it was "Game on for species numbers 2, 3, and 4!"

(Well, 5, if you count 3-4 woof-woofs)

For the next few hours it was porgies, sea biscuits, and toggies all mixed together. Steady, solid, action. If things got quiet for 60 seconds, Capt. J. bounced and it went bang-bang again.

150 porgies, a dozen sea bass, and one legal tog later (with twice as many released...do the math if you want to picture the action), Capt. J yelled out "its time to change rigs...lets get a boat limit of toggers!"

Re-positioned the boat, like, 30 feet...dropped anchor, and, a scratchy bite ensued, but short and legal togs started coming over at a steady clip.

One person in particular, Da Mrs. Volume 2, starting putting on a clinic for the rest of us. Miss Michelle (da mrs. volume 2, not the boat), who never had caught tog before...go figure....figured it was her job to get the boat limit for the rest of us, and basically, she did.

Drop and reel tog for a first timer. Guess she listened to the instructions from the mates, or had a honey hole, or both. Whatever the case, she got the pool tog, AND the whistle fish, and her personal bests, 3, 4, and 5!

Arms and bodies aching, we yelled out "Uncle", and for once, Capt. Jelly listened.....

2 hours of fish cleaning later, we headed for our cars and all agreed it was one trip for the ages!

Great jobs by John and Mike.....great food... doing a slightly different version of this 2 weeks from now and cant wait!

Rubberband Pete and GDUBS could not make this trip; Pete due to injury, GDUBS due to Jets tix. Hmmmmmmmm...Jets tix versus Monger trip. Hmmmmmmm....yeah. I'm going to see the Jets and miss the next trip cause, THATS more fun!!!!

We missed you guys. Pete, you would have needed a LOT of rubber bands today, best you stayed home!

All scrod, red fish, sea turtles, lion fish, and tile fish were released unharmed. NO Democrats were harmed in the making of this trip.

Cheers!

Always a great trip when on the Monger. Cpt. Jelly, aka Cpt Jerry runs a top notch operation. John and Mike were always there for all your fishing needs (like untangling my line with cpt JJ and his damm woof woof fish).
This crew, always a blast to fish with. Thanks for the invites over and over again. A fishing trip is more then just fishing.

I have to say the two ladies did put on a clinic, species didnt matter. Well done!!

Item learned today. I will never ever try to Jig a tog. Nothing wrong with it,I just will not do it.
