Headed out for one last trip this morning with Pete and Noah. Ran out from Keyport to around #20 in the reach, found the birds, and the fleet. Picked up a bunch of shorts on shads, I found it more productive to stay on the outskirts of the bird life rather than cast into the heart of it. Action died down on the north side of the bay, but picked up on the south side, from Keansburg to the ammo pier. Was a nice way to finish up the season, before my boat gets buttoned up.
Now my rant...
I'm a pretty quiet, and patient, guy. A number of times today, some boats, including party boats, would run through the middle of the breaking fish and birds. I know these guys have to make a living, so live and let live. BUT- at one point, a party boat (sponsor) came running in, blowing his horn while he was still underway, and his fares started casting away. OK. Then, a charter boat (sponsor)ran in at a very unacceptable rate of speed, probably 20 yards off my bow, then proceeded to do a high-speed donut around the party boat. If these guys have a beef with each other, so be it, but the d*ckhead running donuts around the party boat for fun threw an enormous wake. I have a 20' cc, and in the process of getting "waked", my nephew fell and got hurt. Because of my job, I generally fish weekends, so I know that traffic and other things makes it a little tougher, but douchebaggery to this level has no place, The guy is a professional. He shouldn't be running at high speed so close to other craft engaged in fishing. I bring this up here, because his profile doesn't accept private Messages. He fishes from the same marina as me, but I didn't want to confront him in front of his customers. That wouldn't be right. But come on, really?

Should have called the Coastguard.

Boaters are responsible for their own wake. You should definitely confront the other Captain as your nephew fell and was injured as a result. Notification to the Coast Guard is also proper.

If we know who acted like a boob out there a couple of emails or phone calls from customers or potential customers might help. leaving it nameless just casts aspersions on other sponsor boats in your marina.

Call a spade a spade!

Wasn't Me for sure!....Considering there are only 4 Party boats with 2 of us not in the area, along with countless Charter boats in the area, inquiring minds want to know! :D Not Happy that someone did get hurt though... too much BS this time of year to catch a few fish. Seems it's only gotten worse over the years, no respect from anyone any more, very sad.

just because someone has money or status or a Capts license or anything else doesn't exempt them from being a DB.

Should have pulled right up to him and let him have it. Sometimes it requires embarrassing them in front of their customers for them to get the message

Pretty easy to figure out, a charter boat sponser leaving out of Keyport. Don't have to Dig too Deep for that one
