I was at the marina winterizing the Hallie Loren and got a call to Jump on Bobs 25' Seafox. 2pm we pulled out of Keyport and searched around. The Birdlife was off midland beach area in Raritan bay with Stripers rolling in top chasing bait. It's fun catching them on topwater plugs and we caught fish in the 27" to 31" range releasing them all. Back at the marina just as it got dark. Nice short trip.

If you don't mind me asking, what top water plugs were they hitting? I haven't been able to get so much as a roll on the ones I've been trying. End up switching back to shads every time and then getting them. Very strange, first time in the past few years I can't get surface feeding fish to hit the popper.

Match the hatch - they are chasing bunker and a little red never hurts

I caught a bunch on a 6" Zara Spook type-lure in bunker pattern on Wednesday. "Walk the Dog" Method worked great. They were knocking it out of the water. Remember to crush those barbs down or releases will be harder.

Good advice above... Later on in the season when they start keying on Sand Eels it's a totally different ball game. Then it's pencil poppers on top and Tsunami savages sub surface. Match the hatch ;)

They hit tsunami bunker Color with rattles and the concaved nose to create big splashes
