Was out on one of our good sponsor boats yesterday. Fishing was below average. Too many shorts and bergals. I did much better than anyone near me and I ended up with 10 porgies and 4 seabass and just missed the big pool. 2 guys i was with totaled 3 seabass and 6 porgies which was about the average. Was very surprised with the number of tiny seabass that far off shore. Captain moved around a lot and kept us out an hour late trying to find the right drop but it was not meant to be. Looking forward to blackfish.

My son and I were out on a sponsor boat out of Belmar. I had similar numbers like you. We ended the day with 4 sea bass and 2 porgies between the two of us. A little disappointing, but there was constant action with 12 inchers. I'd say the keeper ratio was somewhere around 1 out of 10 to 20.

I was also out Saturday on a sponsor charter boat out of Point Pleasant. Fished offshore next to the Ocean Explorer and other NS party boats in 120 feet of water. Ton of bergalls and gator blues. The bluefish were biting the black sea bass in half on the way up on at least four occasions!!
Porgies were 4-5 cranks off the bottom. Few winter flounder in the mix. Keeper sea bass that made it safely into the boat were very warm to the touch. Bigger fish must already be out in deeper water. Thanks NMFC for the 10/22 opening!
