Gambler 36hr trip--This'll be a quicky--I'm whipped! Got to the Hudson and looked for the temp break-found it & set up a drift @ 1.9 kts- a little quick, but doable. First fish 70-80# YFT after an hour, then a flurry of 30-40/50# yellows every couple hours--just when guys were getting bored, here's a few more to get the blood flowing again. Ran back, started again, and a couple more flurrys. Set up on the drift for night after a short run finding a shot of 2* warmer water(73*+). Again, short shots of same size YFT's until just before false dawn with another shot & me with my light (30# main/40# fluoro leader get run off going into the braid backing...good, first tuna on this new acid wrap & it's a little bigger! After 50 min, passed off to Todd, me again, Alex, me, back to Todd; after 1hr 40min main fatigued near leader and parted---had it within 25-30' doing spirals--big yellow, 100#+. Wasn't his day to die...Finally spent 2 hrs pot hopping, some still produced a very few Mahi to 15# while 2-3 of us jigged for wahoo-longfin. Finished up by running to & making 2 drifts over a wreck. Headed in @ 2PM. As always, Bob went over trying to get everyone something for home & 2nd capt Todd, Chris, Nico, Alex & our offshore galley girl, Eva(delivering meals to the rail) for keeping us happy and entertained as only this crew can do--Kudos!!! NOAA was pretty close to forecast. Daylight drifts @ 1.2 kts. Air was warm, even with overcast today.."T"-shirt weather...Couple of free swimmers(mahi) and catchable squid & only one blue dog...Totals--a few mahi to 15#, all YFT-1 80#,maybe 15-20 30-40/50#.Most, if not all caught on live/dead squid and chunks/whole butter fish... I'm stiff, starting to cramp, shower-me & rods-and to bed...See everyone next Wed. for NJF 36hr trip...looks like we'll get out after this weekend/Monday blow....good night...

Great Story!!Those big yellows don't get big by being stupid. They know what to bite! Like you said, it wasn't his day to die. He's just little fatigued with an aching jaw.

That's one way to look at it. I wonder how the fish tells it to his friends."Hey, there was this guy who had 30lb........"
