Limits of Yellowfin 50-70 Pounds & Longfin for the 48' Canyon Runner and Several Canyon Runner Fishing Report Members - And to top it Off - One of Our Members Nails a 262# Big-eye!
For our Charters - Close to 50 Big Tuna Last 3 Trips!
Bad fishing for 2.5 months is now red hot – get out there before it’s over – we have only ONE date available this week but weather looks good and this date will not last long.
The great fishing we’ve been talking about continued last night and today – Saturday/Sunday - with a limit of yellowfin on the 48 Canyon Runner (15 yellowfin with 12 of them 50-70 pounds for the 5-man charter) and we also nail 2 longfin. It was Capt. Phil Dulanie on the helm with Capts. Kevin Muller and late season addition Ryan Britt in the pit. And man did they get it done almost all on the chunk with the Tom Williamson charter having the honors on this trip.
They left Clark’s Landing, Pt. Pleasant at 6am Saturday and got to the edge around 11am and immediately went 1 for 2 on longfin on the troll – and that was it for the day – things were looking bleak. But as dusk settled in things started to look good as a few other boats picked up a couple yellowfin on the troll before setting up on the hook so we had hope – and we were right. By midnight they were 6/7 on nice yellowfin and feeling good with 7 tuna total in the boat when the sun came up. Then it got real good.
A pick of yellowfin started around 7am and got better and better as the morning sun rose in the sky. Staying on the chunk the whole time we saw fish on almost the entire morning. A few fish were fought for almost an hour as there were some real bruisers in there and the charter was getting fatigued but as time wore on they got closer and closer to their limit of yellowfin. They were debating going home short of their limit when the fish came under the boat and a double went off – both were boated – their limit was I the bag and home they went. When the morning dew dried they saw that bite put 10 big yellowfin in the boat out of a ton of bites. In sum, they went home with 15 yellowfin and 2 longfin for our third solid trip in a row over the past 8 days.
What makes this bite that’s going off right now give us a ton of confidence that there is a big body of fishing moving into the canyon, and that this bite will stay good for at least another couple weeks, is 1) these fish are moving in on a big body of water and – most importantly – 2) several other boats had double digit catches, a few other charter boats had limits and best of all – several of our Canyon Runner Fishing Report Members who hung in there with us and didn’t hang it up and quit on the season had great catches too last night and today. A few of our Members had yellowfin limits and we saw what I think is a Canyon Runner Member record 262# big-eye boated by Dr. Gerard Eichman on the Lucky Irishman – why to go Doc – that’s a hell of a fish!
Hard for us to hold back our excitement after a tough couple months – and were NOT! We have charters locked and loaded all week and if the weather allows we’ll be back out there – leave at 6am Monday morning.
Again folks – if you’ve been sitting it out waiting for the fishing to turn on – it’s been turned on now for 8 days – get in on it before you end up having to wait 6 months to see this again. We have one date open this week and 2 open next week so call ASAP if you want it.
Below are pics from Today – Sunday, October 16, 2016 with the Tom Willimason Charter on the end of the dock with all their yellowfin – the Big-eye is Dr. Gerards – again Doc – way to go! Plus some shots from our previous 2 overnighers.
