Well I was not going to make this a post but it has been on my mind all day. Yesterday I was invited to go to pines lake. I spent the morning being blown all over the place in my kayak so I got off the water and ate lunch. I then decided to fish from shore. At around 1 when it began to warm up I decided to throw a big perch colored husky jerk. On my second cast I was reeling in my lure and a huge pike sniffed my lure up to my ankles and quickly bit the end of the rapala, looked up and saw me, and then circled back away. This fish had to be at least 40" inches and was thick. I know because I watched my buddy site cast a 42" pike except the fish that followed mine was even thicker. I spent the next couple hours trying to get him to recommit and he was no where in site. I guess the large pike are pretty smart fish. He was probably caught before because I noticed in the reports all of the big ones have been caught through the ice! LOL.....Anyways just that site alone made the trip worth it and it would have shattered my old personal best pike.

Yep they are in there. I bet you were fishing from the south beach channel, down to the right from the patio.
You see my buddy out there in a black boat?
big bass in there too. Been fishing there almost every weekend in the bass tournaments this year.

Use to know a co-worker that had access there. Nice lake considering I was fishing off their dock and caught a few. The fishing community takes care of that lake in terms of hiring people to do samplings of fish and water quality.

Birdman,

I did see your buddy out there and you were right about where I was fishing. It's a nice deep tributary in there. Maybe I should have had live bait? Jigman, my buddy caught a 42" pike in the river a while back. I failed to say that sorry lol.

Heard a 42.5" was caught in there in 2014.

I'm no pike expert but all of my pike so far have been caught on deadbaits that have been twitched after the pike swiped at my lure and missed. I scout the pike with a lure and if it doesn't connect, I switch to a deadbait such as smelt and twitch it slow near bottom and usually after a few minutes the pike will take it.
If you try it, let me know how it works for you.
