Got a late start (11am). Plan was to play with the albies then switch over to togging. Ran down to where I figured they would be and usually are this time of year. Found them thick inshore of the rocks. Put a few blues and albies in the box for sword and shark baits. Then dropped the hook in 35' water. Instant bites but had to weed through the seabass to get to the tog. Had to throw back some beauties. I got a keeper fluke on a crab. That was cool.
A odd looking fish followed up our seabass twice. Couldn't figure out what it was. Got a good look at it. I've seen stripers follow my blackfish before and this definitely wasn't. Kind of looked like a pollack. Any ideas?
Then my buddy hooks a good one( 10# on the boga). It was his pb so we were stoked. Fun day on the water. Flattened out beautiful for the ride home.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was a Cobia they do travel this far north this time of the year.

Wow did you sit on a horseshoe and have it lodged inside you? That sounds like an amazing day! Nice job

We had this happen twice recently while porgy fishing but I got a very good look at it as it followed a hooked fish up to the surface. It was a smooth puffer. I thought it was a trigger at first but it lollygagged at the surface for a moment and I was able to positively ID it. Captain Kevin saw it too.

Don't keep one if you catch it, they're toxic.

Yea cobia and amberjack passed my mind but I didn't consider the smooth puffer. I think it was the puffer. We even had live peanuts in the well and put one out but no hits other than seabass swimming off the bottom. Togging in Tshirts is always a real treat. Thanks for all the feedback.
