I was fishing today with a regular on the Paramount. He was telling me a story about the famed Captain Charles Nappi. Apparently he was a childhood friend of his & the last time he saw him was when he was 9 years old. He did not even know that his buddy was a fisherman at all until recently. He was trying to get a Bio on him does anybody have a Bio on him I think this would really make his day. The person name who is looking for him is Sal Sorace I'm sure quite few of you who fish the Paramount know of him. Sal is not a internet savvy person I'm not that great at it as well. But I 'm sure somebody can shed some light on it.

Larry somebody showed it to him I think what he wanted to know is how his life went after they never seen each other again. Things like where he was born because he believed that he was born in PA & they both knew each other from Cape May NJ, Plus he wanted to know about his siblings & just how he got to where he was, Sal himself was a charter captain at one time & holds some major offshore records for tournaments. He claimed that when they grew up as kids fishing was the last thing on their minds. He just found it amazing that the both of them got into the same thing & never crossed lines. Sal did fish Montauk but did more offshore things where Nappi was more of a bottom fisherman. Back in those days very few boats did Fluke fish there Cod & Jumbo Porgies was the thing . I think the first party boat out there that did it was the Capt Spider after he started it all other boats chimed in. I think Al Ristori or Capt Mikes Memorabilia may have the answers for him.

Doug,
My cousin was married to his grandson (unfortunately he drown very young), as a kid my mom would send me to LI for a few weeks and I would fish everyday at the pier in West Islip.
I got to fish with him a few times, I was a kid so I don't remember too much. I do remember fishing with him & his sister (I think, it was an older woman) in a small skiff for fluke, he caught a lot of fish and I remember trying to mimic what he was doing but not having the success he was having. I remember you could see the fluke eat the spearing/squid, we were fishing that shallow.
Sorry I don't have anything for his friend but you made me remember some great times in LI.

Thanks for that info Pete I just got off the phone with Sal & he was very happy to hear that. He also told me another story about his wife who held a world record for a woman for many years I think the record is broken again for a World 50lb class for a Big Eye Tuna the fish weighed 280lbs her name was Betty Elizabeth the boat he worked was called the 5 star Ocean yacht out of Ocean City MD it was voted by his peers as a top 20 gun boat.
