The 2016 fluke season was the by far the best fluking I've ever had in my 20 years of life. 13 trips with limits +, 5 fish over 10 pounds (including ed's 13.5) and too many quality 5-8 pounders to count. With the season over it's now time to break out the anchors and begin looking for blackfish.

Today, with my morning class cancelled, I ran down to the jetty and dunked a couple of greens to see what was biting. Lots of bergals and tiny sea bass ripping my crabs apart to begin. Once the tide switched I finally got some Of the right bites. Not fireball fishing, as I expected, but after an hour I got 4 blackfish, 2 around 12 inches and 1 at 14 and 1 really nice one at 17.5. All fish were safely released by me. However there were a couple of other people fishing keeping everything they caught no matter the species, size or bag limit. Called fish and game but they probably won't show up as usual.

Anyhow, good beginning for me. Lost a couple of sinkers, but man it felt great to be back. Water is still very warm, and pretty dirty as well. It will only get better from here!

Pictures to follow, can't submit photos from my phone

Nice report - way to catch 'em up and let 'em go!
Hope they nail those poachers.
