When the local head boats that sail out of Manasquan Inlet target porgies, they head north and and fish the rough bottom from about Sea Bright down to Elberon.. There might be some porgies on the Axel Carlson Reef which is about 4 miles SE of the inlet, but I have never seen party boats target them there, so the numbers might not be all that great.. Personally, if I were you, I would make a left out of the inlet, and head about 14-15 miles to the north and fish the rocky bottom off of Deal, Elberon, and Long Branch.. LOTS of Scup and other bottom life there this time of year.. You can find them with a depth finder.. If its fairly calm you won't even need to anchor.. Small hooks and clam bits on a bottom rig are all you'll need.. I would start in about 40-50 foot of water, and head deeper as needed.. You might get plagued by small sea bass this time of year.. If you start catching a million little sea bass and bergalls, I would pick up try another spot. You might get some nice triggerfish as well ... bob
