With the negative reports from the Hudson the night before, Bob took us to the Lindenkohl, with a detour to the Carteret checking on water temps, and a shot of warmer water backing up to the cold water..found the 70-73.5* break & started a drift under a clearing moon-lit night with a slight breeze against the current....we drifted with the current..a few squid jigged, no other life but for a few jelly fish:mad:...3-4' long period swells on 3-6" wind waves, which during the morning, became almost non-existent with a whisper of air movement....No run-offs of any kind so pot hopped during daylight with ample nice Mahi-Mahi 10-25#---even me(with 4---2 tuna jigging:eek:) with shirt-sleeve temps...we did see some smallish breaking fish 3-4 times---skippys?---nothing legal(larger) fin sized & way too far for casting to...
Hermine really did a job on the tunes:mad::mad::mad:...at least everyone went home with fillets for the freezer...Gonna try next week on the 48hr. it can't get any worse tuna-wise can it?--except get blown out:eek:

An aside: we lost a die-hard fisherman for a year with a blood clot in a leg...Charlie Tuna, we all wish you a speedy recovery; well wishes/prayers sent and we'll see you next year...

Nice report PG. Every report I read gets more depressing than the next!!!! Nice to get the mahi but damn!!!! ...... Floating chunks out all night trip after trip with nothing on the other end gets old!!!!

Taking my stepdaughter out on 10-2 for her first tuna trip. At what point do the tuna boats change trips to tile Mahi trips? I know the bluefish boats switched to fluke most of The summer ?

BC...Depends on availability of tuna; night time chunk for tuna--drift/anchor; daytime, no tuna readings & none caught(like now) pot hop for Mahi which are very numerous on almost every pot. Until the tunes show up again & the Mahi are still there, that, most likely, will be the agenda, don't know about the tile fishing.

700 bucks for a mahi trip is a little steep. ( 2,of us). would rather save cash, vacation days and go,when there is a chance of a tuna! Hopefully weather changes and brings then into range!

I do believe it is "a canyon too far"...Wilmington is about the farthest south they'll run...at least that's as far south as I've been on a PB...
