Gambler Inshore Exotics trip

I'm going on the Sept. 26 trip. Can I get some input on tackle needed. Rod /Reels. Braid / Topshot Vs Mono. Also recommended Lures, Terminal tackle.
This will be my first time doing this.

Leave the braid home, they'll love you for that. Hard enough dealing with tangles on mono. These Albies race around looking for other lines. Seems that way.

Went on on these "Exotics" trip with The Gambler a few years back and caught plenty of bonito and little tunny plus blues used a spinning outfit with #17 lb test mono with #30 shock leader. A 007 was the lure of choice for me. Tight lines!

That set up would also work for Mahi if any pot hopping is planned. 30# leader might be a little on the heavy side so you could tie it directly to your main line.

As far as the Mahi, a hook on the smaller size like a 1/0 Gami, any sort of boat bait and a few split shots a foot above the hook is all you'd need. Cast it by the pots and hold on :D

1/4 to 3/8 bucktails or jigs heads work here as well.. Just tip them with boat bait or soft plastics.

might want to stuff a heavier outfit in your bag as there have been some real tuna inshore.

Just to clarify. I used #30 Fluorocarbon since this is party boat fishing and it can be crowed so you don't always have the luxury of being able to fight the fish like on a private boat. Also if some #15 blues are around you will be glad you have that heavier shock leader. But I do agree that the lighter the better with these line spooky fish. I always bring #20 shock leader just in case they are not biting do to the heavier line and switch up. Tight lines!

Thanks for all the info. I should have everything for this trip. I can't wait, this is going to be fun expanding my fishing experiences. Just hope for good weather. Last year the trip was blown out do to high winds.
