These were caught inshore of the local canyons and as close as 35-40 fathoms off the beach in South Jersey in the warmer 75-76 degree water. Yesterday's reports are the first ones I have heard about where any decent size Yellowfins have been caught in weeks and so far this as been the worst September in years if you target tuna out of South Jersey and ports to the south. Still no night chunk bite but at least some nice Yellowfins were caught mainly on bars that imitate squid. Hoping more tuna show up and stay around for a while so we can put some trips together to take advantage of this bite.
We do open boat trips for singles and small parties for those interesting in doing 13-15 hour day trips for Yellowfins but we only go when we are sure we have a fair chance of putting a nice catch together. Hopefully this will start to happen now and we can load up on tuna before the offshore season ends usually around Halloween off South Jersey but we have had tuna right up to Thanksgiving a few years in the more southern canyons.
