Went on a 30 hour non sponsor party boat out of Pt. Pleasant. couldn't ask fro better weather. we did see some life but unfortunately no one could find the tuna yesterday. The mahi saved the trip & I wound up this guy that I wouldn't have boated with out a lot of help from the Capts. Jeff & John & their great crew chasing the fish down so the could put the gaff in him. Thanks again guys.

Great Bull! Now, after the tease with the picture, what is the story behind the picture? Weight? Bait? Jig? On a Pot? Sight casting? There has to be something else you want to tell us.

Sweet Mahi! Not many people found the tuna last night, if they did they were barely legals. I was on Canyon Runner 60. We covered a ton of area. White Marlin, boat load of Mahi (played catch and release for awhile), skipjack but couldn't find a "real" tuna. Great night to be out, the moon setting was killer! The 48 found some tuna though.

Never weighted the fish, should have but didn't, so I'm open to suggestions fish was about 4' long, looked bigger in the water at the side of the boat. As for the rest, caught him pot hopping at the end of the drift, on a half of a small sardine with a 4/0 live bait hook tied on about 2' of 40#,the fish took about a 1/3 of the spool of line before we got to a stalemate, him not taking & me only able to gain a few inches on each pump of the rod the only time I gained on him was when they ran the fish down & we fought him around the anchor tree, always a fun thing to do. Used a Bogan rod built for 25# line (love that mans work) & a shimano 6500 reel ( no a, b or c), fisherman - one lucky old guy with another big fish off the bucket list.

Nice Mahi and sounds like you had a great fight on your hands.
My guess would be between 30 and 35 pounds.

Same story with us, minus the whites. We did drop a good wahoo. We came south to troll in the am and saw you guys on the 60 just as you started up and headed up north. Great night and day on the water, just no tasty tunas to bring home. Hopefully the bite starts up, if ever.

Sorry Gerry, but that bull is bigger than 35#. We've caught mahi at least that big in Cabo and they were in the 40# class. That mahi has a pretty thick belly to boot. It would be a beautiful fish to have mounted. A mahi that size would have brought home a hefty paycheck at the Mid Atlantic Tournament.
