caught incoming and outgoing tides but big blues were too far off the beach to reach.....they were boiling out there but never came close enough...once the tide went out, no water to fish since so much beach sand has filled in the surf..almost impossible to reach deeper water where the fish are...water is still clear but warm...will try again Saturday...some snappers in the surf too...see 'ya all later, Robbie

Good to hear about the snappers Rob, thank you for your relentless surf reports.

I may go over there this week to try to get any last fluke of the season out of the surf, if the snappers do not shred my lures.

Do you think the Bluefish bite will be better in October?
I plan on targeting bluefish and stripers again in october and november, it's only my second year fishing for them - you can probably tell I'm newbie to the seasonal surf we have in NJ.

Yes, based on the years past, the blues will get closer as the bait fish enter the surf. Small spearing were in the wash and larger bait was off the beach as you could see them jumping out of the jaws of the larger blues. The mullet and peanut bunker should be in the wash soon too..that is when we get hit with BLUES...
As told by Jim Freda in his article 9/11, the traditional mullet run should be in full force along with spearing, peanut bunker and anchovies along the beach around the time of the full harvest moon Sept, 16..the downside of this moon should produce the best action as a mass exodus can occur from the back bays and rivers. Lets hope that is correct. like I said, I will be on the hook Saturday...see 'ya all later, Robbie.

last year we caught 20lb bluefish at the hook around the end of October.

they were feeding on peanuts in the wash - 5 ft from shore...

and this year there are still many peanuts in the Hudson and the bay
