Had our regular customer Joe G on with his crew today to sample some of the incredible porgy fishing we've had this summer.
Left early, ran to where we caught some last week, but it was very quiet, so we took a little longer ride and found the motherlode. At first we caught them on the drift, then dropped the hook and pounded on them for awhile, until the wind shifted and we had some trouble catching. We made a few wiggles and caught a few more, but it slowed tremendously due to the swing.
Once the south wind started blowing we got back to where we read them and caught them, and with a steady breeze we were able to sit right on them and we had slaughter fishing for 2 straight hours. Multiple doubles headers - very few shorts also. Today the porgies were bigger than they were last month, as we had dozens of 12-15"ers topped by a couple 2-2.5# ers. The crew also added 6 triggerfish and 2 taylor sized blues to the box.
We also got 2 of those giant silver pelagic puffers to the boatside today, but both were busted off as the small porgy hooks stood no chance with their beaks.
Called it a day around 1145 - headed back so we could get cutting. Wound up with the entire limit as well as the 6 triggers and 2 blues. The cooler was FULL (pics below - and there was no ice padding LOL) -- loads of meat for the crew. This was a great trip with a great crew - can't wait to get back out there again next weekend!
