Here is the latest release on the dredging of Shark River.
see bottom.
It is scheduled to start Sept 1 prox.
There will be some weekday channel interruptions.
We are also waiting for a "recovery plan" and we are very concerned
that without additional resources $$$ this project will NOT be completed as the bid was originally awarded.
It will be very important the the back channel Spur is fully included.
There is a pumpout station there and it is the source of
high water pollutants especially after a rainfall.
We need the water flushed with the tide changes.
Stay tune for further info. JFD

Thursday 9 PM through Monday 9 AM – Channel open but with on-going active dredging operations. During this period mariners are urged to transit at their slowest safe speed, with no wake, and no meeting or passing of other vessels. In addition there will be no Channel Closure on Labor Day. No Channel Closures Permitted 6:00 AM Friday, September 2, 2016 until Noon Tuesday September 6, 2016.
The dredging will be performed by the cutter suction Dredge # D-40 and will be assisted by the vessels WB-24. All pipelines will be marked with buoys and lighted. The dredge and other associated vessels will monitor VHF channels 6, 13 and 16. All mariners should take care to avoid the dredging operations as well as the associated pipelines.
Please include the following additional information in the Notice to Mariners Broadcast “During periods when the channel is open to navigation, mariners are urged to transit at their slowest safe speed to minimize wake and proceed with caution after passing arrangements have been made. Mariners must communicate clearly, and in advance, with the dredge via appropriate VHF channels.”
Mariners should also be advised that State Aids to Navigation (ATON) will be removed for the duration of the project. All mariners, including those utilizing human powered craft, should be especially alert to project pipeline routes and crossings.
