We gave the fluke a bit of a break early august :p but started going back after them last week.
Had a slow but steady pick with keepers last thursday out in the ocean and tried to get on them again last weekend but the ground swell made that trip pretty much a waste as the fertile fluke grounds had nothing but a short fluke and seabass here and there.
Had a chance to head out again yesterday and it seemed the area was picked pretty clean, but fish still remained. We picked away in 50-70' waters, it was slow, but had a good keeper ratio (25 fluke 5 keepers) though 4 or them were 18-19". The current had us using 8oz bucktails a lot of the day and even had to feather it out. nabbed one nice keeper at the end of the day doing this fortunately. Had to work for the fish and no monsters, but decent final results with 5 keeper fluke and a 4 fish limit on seabass 13-15".
and also if anyone is interested, 1-4 lbs blues have been under the diving birds outside the hook every time we've gone out the last 2 weeks. Last thursday, there were also spanish mackerel in the schools and hickory shad (i think, maybe big herring?). unfortunately, nothing but blues as far as we've seen since then.
