On Friday I'm going to find myself near the Rockaway Town Square Mall with a couple of hours to kill. I'm not looking for your honey holes, just if anybody can point me in the right direction to hit up around there? Looking to shore fish, so Hopatcong is not really ideal for me. I'll be hitting a couple spots I like on the Rockaway River in/around Denville on the way home but was wondering if there was anywhere accessible and worthwhile right around there?

You could always hit up Dow's(the best) on Hopatcong or Dick's in Rockaway and restock some tackle.

Thanks Jack! I probably will check it out. What about Mill Pond and White Meadow Lake right there? Do you know if they're public or private? Shoreline access doesn't look that good from google maps.
Skunk: I surely would have, but I've already spent my allowance on beer :(

Not sure about Mill Pond, but I know Indian Lake and White Meadow Lake are both Private.
The river in Denville is very low right now, may want to try another option. I myself will be going to the Rockaway in Boonton on Friday.

Thanks Capspath83. I'm rarely around that area, so when I do get out that way I like to at least check out some of those spots whether it's low or not. My in-laws live in Boonton, so I try to avoid that part in order to not be spotted! Good luck, though. Should be a nice day.

Thanks Fred. You as well! Its my first year getting into Freshwater. Been salt all my life. Just moved to Denville, so I am looking forward to trout fishing. Im trying to scout some good areas now while the river is low as well.

I grew up in Boonton twp on the border of Denville. The Rockaway river by Garner field is or was very good. Up by the bridge is pretty deep lots of smallmouth and Rock bass . Garner field is across from the Burger King

check out the ponds along Green Pond Road going N and Fox Pond to the South of 80. Might be choked up with weeds so bring your weedless gear.
also splitrock isn't that far off from the mall..

Just wanted to say thanks guys. Tried out Mount Hope Pond by the Arsenal and could not buy a bite! 3 other guys were doing the bait & wait and having the same lack of luck as me. It was scenic though, I really liked checking it out.
Stopped off at the Rockaway River on the way home and got 2 dink smallies, had a real nice one on but it jumped and threw the popper. Was very shallow except by the bridge. A great blue heron flew by and a snapping turtle was tired of swimming so it decided to beach itself within 10 yards from me.
