A buddy of mine sent me a picture of a gaffed mahi on the manasquan jetty this morning. Looked pretty real not photoshopped. It was posted by a scuba diving store. Anyone else see this?

I didn't see the picture you are referring to, but I'm sure it's real as I definitely saw two small mahi this morning while fishing off the bow of The Gambler while it was at the dock! I also saw two small ones caught today on the morning trip. The mate told me that they are all over the place. Very small, 1 1/2 pounds with one of the ones caught being even smaller.

I'd believe it. Late summer always brings oddball catches.

Gambler had one Friday AM, smaller than a "chicken" Mahi. As a cbass would've been a throw back. Given the spread of such warm water, wouldn't be surprised to see whites being caught inshore...caught a 85# yellowfin 3-4mls off AC several years ago under similar circumstances...& a white was caught 10mls off AC the same week...

This is very new to me. Been fishing inshore for over 20 years and never seen this. Especially not mahi from shore. Was in manasquan last week and the water read 82. I haven't seen any bonito around though. Maybe they're off shore a little.

Looks pretty big to be caught from shore.

On the fluke grounds yesterday and saw mahi swimming around. About the size of picture. Unfortunately kept moving and didn't get a shot to try to catch.

I caught this one yesterday off of Wildwood while flounder fishing
It hit a geezer teaser topped off with a whole squid

Would not surprise me to see the Mahi so close in with the water temps being so warm. The ones we saw out in the Mudhole were only a pound or 2 as well.

when we have warm water summers like this we will see the mahi, cobia and spanish mackerel on the beach.i'll bet if we could get some clean water we would have tuna close.
