Today was one of those days I'll never forget.
Our 4 man crew consisting of David, Ed Rumsby... the Rumster, my father and I pushed off the dock at 6, netted some peanuts then bolted back to where we had the big fish on Monday. First drop of the day, 4 lines hit the bottom, and we had 3 fish on in seconds! I pull up a short, Ed lands a respectable 19inch keeper, and my dad lands a hog right over 6lbs. great start! We continued to pick at shorts until Ed sets the hook into a true monster. The fish didn't budge. After a long fight, and some crafty angling the fish slid right into the net. Measured out at 32 inches and the handscale showed weights between 13lb and 14.9... A JERSEY JUMBO!!!
As I'm typing this he just messaged me saying the official weight, was 13lbs 6oz (thanks fishermans den). After that these fish just turned on. All big fish today, the average keeper was legit 4.5 pounds. All solid solid keepers. The next drift we run up and I swing into a solid pig. After some crazy runs, we get the fish to the surface. Right into the net she went, 10 pounds 4 ounces!!! The size of the fish today were incredible for sure. I believe we had 7 fish over 6 pounds. Just stupid, we were looking at 19 and 20 inch fish thinking they were short. Add 2 big knuckle head seabass in the mix and that was our box.
David, bucktailing in the bow, was off his A game today but he managed 3 keepers, 2 @ 20 and 1 @ 21, as well as a 16 inch seabass!
My dad had 5 keepers. With his biggest being at 8, 2 at 6+ and some smaller ones around 20inches.
Ed was an all star today, taking 6 keepers to 13 pounds 6ounces!!!!! With multiple 6's in the box. Congrats on the new personal best bud!!
I also had a big 14 inch seabass along with my 6 keepers fluke, with the 10+ pounder highlighting my day.
The current and wind were both pushing today! We really had to sinker up. When the current died, the fishing completely shut off, which sucked, but at the time we were already boxed up and heading for home. New penny gulp, peanuts, meat strips, Nuke chicken gilp all worked. Basically anything you dropped caught fish, however I think the meat caught the better sized fish today.
Picture up as soon as my laptop decides to work.
