Hey, haven't been out in awhile, is there any life in the bay/hook area? Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance >>>> Fish-On

There was a ton of fluke by the Bug Light on Monday, all shorts... No one fishing them.
Most of the party boats were keying on the channels where the bay and ocean meet, and several were out a few miles off the hook... There were not a lot of boats inside.. Most were close to or in the ocean... bob

Bay or Ocean, the fish seem to be keying in on the deeper areas. Most of the fleet in the last several weeks seem to have left the back bay and are fishing from the Navy Peer out to the Sandy Hook and Ambrose channels.

A lot of your choices as to where to fish comes down to conditions. Wind against tide, too fast a drift or too slow and fishing is difficult. I'd be looking for deep water area where the tide and wind are as close to the same direction as possible.

Here is a good site with current predictions in the area. http://hudson.dl.stevens-tech.edu/maritimeforecast/maincontrol.shtml
factor in the wind direction, find some deep water where the wind and current are in the same direction and that's where I'd be targeting.

PM trips last Sat. on the Sea Tiger II, and yesterday on the Sea Hunter. Good action in the middle of the bay on both trips. Key was WNW wind & outgoing tide -- wind & tide together. Gulp on a bucktail/trailer hook rig worked very well. 18 shorts on Sat., 13 shorts & 1 keeper yesterday. Obviously more action than keepers, but lots of light-tackle fun. Location was off Keansburg on the NJ side, and off Great Kills on the NY side. See more details in my reports on the wmi-dot-org website. If a search for that website does not work, try searching for my name and fishing reports.

Best of luck,
