Boats today had up to 18-19 big Yellowfin and most I know are not even really targeting Bluefins since the top water Yellowfin bite is so good. These are 50-70 lb. fish all caught hand feeding cut butterfish on the surface using mostly 30-40 lb fluorocarbon leaders only 40 miles from our dock in Cape May. We may have an open date this coming Sunday 7/24 for a regular 6 person charter or make up trip if we get 6 anglers. We are leaving at 2:30 am Thursday morning and should be back at the dock but 5:00 pm tomorrow at the latest.

update: We go hit by lightning on the way out yesterday at around 3:30 am as there was one nasty storm and lost all our electronics. I was close to the tuna grounds so we drifted for a few minutes and picked up on 50 lb Yellowfin then headed back to Cape May the old fashioned way by Richie Compass. I had not GPS, Charter Plotter, Radar or Fish finder so our day was done. Overall the bite was way off on Thursday as my friend that had 19 on Wednesday struggled to get 4 yesterday and another boat that had 16 did not catch one from what I heard. Difference was 20-30 boats earlier in the week and at least 150 on Thursday.

Wow, impressive that you stayed long enough to catch a fish.
Double edged sword. You want to promote your business with those fabulous reports but it attracts more than just customers.

Scary deal , we were hit on the way home from the Wilmington heading back to MI . This happened early eighties fried everything on my buddies 46' Post .
Same deal compass chart , rules took us home with about 50 to go .
Boat was grounded luckily real heavy thunderstorm with torrential,DP's , could barley make out bow from bridge when we got hit .

We got everything back in order last night and this morning and ran an inshore shark trip and everything seemed okay today. We did replace the batteries on the boat and at least one breaker was fried but overall very lucky.
On a side note the tuna bite was a lot better today according to reports I got this evening so it is safe to say the tuna are still around. There as far less boats out there today than on Thursday and I suspect that made a difference in today's catch.
If anyone wants to jump on with us on Sunday we have room for one or two at this time. Should not be too crowded with the wind forecast in the am. No secret about where the tuna are the last few weeks down here as everyone knows and has for a while now. What is kind weird is the local canyons are dead as can be these days and have been for about 3-4 weeks now. Crazy season down here in South Jersey.
My goal in posting reports is to try to get some anglers from North Jersey and the NY, NY area to come down and join us and along with letting anglers know that there has been some great tuna fishing happening on weekdays especially when the boat traffic is under 20-30 boats. There presently is quite a few boats at our marina now from North Jersey to take advantage of the tuna bite and some the White Marlin fishing which recently really took off also.

All the recent post apply to the same location holding both nice size Yellowfins generally in the 45-70 lb class with Bluefins up to 100 lbs mixed right in with the Yellowfins all caught pretty much on the surface hand feeding the tuna with mostly 30-40 leader. (Butterfish and Sardines) I talked to the fish cleaner at my marina that on some days he is cleaning lots of tuna and they are all loaded with sand eels and that is the only reason these fish have stayed around for 3 weeks now. The water is green ugly and pushing 81 degrees and these fish should be out of here and headed north like they do most years but the sand eels is the reason they have stuck around in such good numbers. I keep waiting to hear the bite is over and the fish are no longer that close inshore but so far they have not moved or left the area.
