Reel Class

Had Todd on board with his crew of 4 buddies celebrating Rob's birthday, crew was rounded out by "The Wolf" and Geno.
Changed gears today and took a ride to do some porgy fishing. I personally LOVE catching porgies and have loved fishing for them for years. I always say - if our scup in the NE grew to 20#, EVERYONE would fish for them!
Got up to our #'s and immediately read them good -- didn't get them going so we made a little wiggle, and it was GAME ON. Drop and reel, LITERALLY, with doubleheaders coming up here and there. The bite was as good as it gets, and the best I've seen in years if not THE BEST porgy bite I've seen. For the day we caught maybe 20-25 shorts, the rest were over the 9" minimum -- we only kept them over 10.5-11", and there were LOADS of them. Aside from the smaller ones, we had plenty of others in the 12-14" range topped by a few true jumbo dinner plate sized porgies.
Mixed in were mostly short sized seabass, but we were able to pluck 6 nice keepers through the countless shorts.
We also had a nice shot of triggerfish, boating 3 medium sized ones amongst the porgies and seabass.
The guys EASILY had their 4 man of 200 limit by 11 AM, and we were playing catch and release for awhile with light spinning rods. Kenny and I also got to play for a bit, catching a few dozen between us in quick order. We threw back DOZENS of keepers that were basically unharmed as well as the few shorts we caught.
GREAT trip with great guys - the pics do all the talking. Hopefully these things stay around for awhile. I've personally never seen so many here SO EARLY (not old enough to remember the 60's when it was like this in July!) so I hope it keeps up.
