What a day! Well we got up this morning and headed down to the boat after a few cups of coffee. Got all our stuff on the boat and set up on the bow. It was a little cloudy but it wasnt bad. We headed out at 8am and made our way to the reef again. Once we got out there the wind kinda died. So the drift wasnt the best today. Drop down and get hooked up instantly with a short that had to be 17.9999999999 inches. Haha. No big deal. Threw it back into the water and went on with the day. We moved around a few times and at each spot dad and I got some shorts but no keepers. At this point its getting around 1030 and we had nothing in the box but the action with the shorts was good. I hooked up with another short and threw it back in and changed my gulp. Dropped back down and BAM i get hammered! Rod bent in half but not really head shaking. Dead weight. Thinking skate. Mate Ryan was by my side and asked if he should grab the net. I said no. I get a few more cranks on the fish and all of a sudden its goes wild. Ryan runs real quick and gets the net. Few more cranks and we get a look at the beast. Ryan drops the net down and i cranked up on it right into the net for a perfect net job! Big fish! The fish swallowed a 2oz spro down to its asswhole. Wasnt going any where. Unhooked the fish and Ryan walked it around the boat to show off the catch. We were thinking 6 pounds at first so Ryan grabbed the scale and it read 6.9lbs. Which made it the new seasonal pool leaded. We put the fish on ice ASAP so we could get a real weight of it on a certified scale at the dock. Will honks the horn and we make a move. Drop down and i get a short and i look over and dad is hooked up with a nice fish. Gets it to the top and it turned out to be another 5 pound beauty. Throw it in the box. I pick up one more keeper around 19inches. Will honks the horn 3 times and we head in.
We get back to the dock and get the other two fish cut. I gave one to this very nice older lady that had a tough day fishing. She got a good dinner on me. She tried to pay me for it which i thought funny but there was no way i was going to take her money. Anyways Ryan takes the fish to the scale and puts it on. Comes back and the fish officially weighed in at 7.37 pounds. Pool winner worth over 400 bucks and new seasonal pool leader!! My biggest fish of the season so far.
Afternoon trip went to hell. Wind picked up out of the south and just killed the fishing. Blowing 15-20 gusting 25 id say. We went down the beach and had a drift but could only put together a few shorts, some skates and dad got one keeper. Not good.
Ended the day with the 2 fish and Dad with the 2. And as always Capt and crew were top notch!
Pictures or it didnt happen!
