In just 3 trips Capt. Deane Lambros caught 160 yellowfin. In 3 trips in a row for Capt. Phil Dulanie he's caught 130 yellowfin and bluefin plus one nice bluefin to 70".
TO BE CLEAR - WE ONLY KILLED A SMALL FRACTION OF THAT NUMBER IN TAKING 60 BACK TO THE DOCK - ALSO ON ALL OF THOSE TRIPS BUT ONE - WE STOPPED FISHING HOURS BEFORE THE TRIP WAS OVER AS THE CHARTERS JUST HAD ENOUGH AND WANTED TO GO HOME EARLY
The catch totals didn't end just with our two Canyon Runner boats - our Canyon Runner Fishing Report Members got to join in on the action themselves with multiple boats putting together their best catches of yellowfin of the year and a few big-eyes to boot!
Trip 1 - 60 Yellowfin - Almost all over 30" most 30-40 Pounds and Several 40-50 released - Capt. Deane Lambros was out Sunday to Monday June 20 with the Carl Bloomfield charter between the Wilmington and Baltimore and had what he called easily the top 5 best trips of his life. They finished fishing for yellowfin when they had 60 yellowfin to their total early on the first day - that took only a few hours to accomplish. Better yet at least 35 of those were 30-50 pounders. They only kept around 15. Canyon Runner Margarita Green Machines bars were hot but really anything could have caught. They went big-eye hunting for the rest of the trip to no avail.
Trip 2 - 50 Bluefin to 175 Pounds - Capt. Phil Dulanie and Kevin Muller had the John Easterly charter out on the 60' Ritchie Saturday-Sunday June 18-19 and stopped right on top of the bluefin in the Hudson Canyon area. They never put more than 4 rods in the water that afternoon and even spent an hour hanging with the Coast Guard for a routine inspection (passing with flying colors of course) without fishing but still caught 39 bluefin Saturday afternoon in 4 hours of fishing time including one 70" fish that was around 175 pounds caught on a Joe Shute 3oz head and a ballyhoo. In the morning Capt. Kevin was begging the charter to stay to get to 50 and they did - in just an hour caught another 12. These bluefin are all nice fish - slightly bigger than the yellowfin to the south - all around 35-55 pounds. Canyon Runner Blue/Silver Mini-Mamba bars was the best of it (a Capt. Phil Favorite) but again they would have eaten anything.
Trip 3 - 40 Yellowfin - Capt. Deane had the Charles Viebal charter out Wednesday to Thursday and even though fishing "slowed" in the Norfolk/Washington area they still caught 40 yellowfin with 15 nice ones coming home.
Trip 4 - 10 Yellowfin - Saw the 60 Ritchie Howell on Wednesday-Thursday with the Pete Torciello charter with the only slow trip of the bunch only catching 10 yellowfin in an overnighter with only 4 good ones. Crazy - it happens - but this is when we notice the yellowfin might be moving north and what promoted us to go to the Baltimore/Wilmington area yesterday.
Trip 5 - 70 Yellowfin for Capt. Phil
Normally I'd write this out myself but I figured let's let the charter's words speak for themsevle - here is Bob Smith's post about the trip
His words not ours - 70 Yellowfin, Blue & White Marlin, 5 Species of Sharks, Mahi and even a Whale Shark Visit

Put out the spread in some colder 67 degree water but soon had 4,5 or 6 on a time! Found the temp break of 5 degrees and the 72 degree water had many 40-60lb yellowfin w/ us actually having up to 8 rods hooked up at a time! We also landed close to a dozen big mahi, a small white Marlin, and an estimated 450lb blue marlin. We trolled through the dark in hopes of some big eye but it wasn't in the cards for us. Decided to do some sharking overnight and immediately hooked up w/ a small hammerhead, what followed was the most action packed sharking ever! Lost count on how many we had but did have 5 species of sharks including hammerheads, Browns, blues, dusky and a 5-600lb tiger shark. No makos but the action was non-stop! Even had a 35'+ whale shark bump into the boat and turn around.the morning troll produced more multiple hookups on yellowfin w/ 8 50-60lb'ers on at once! We ended w/ around 65-70 yellowfin, about 5-6 skipjack, a huge blue marlin, white Marlin, about a dozen mahi and at least a dozen various sharks!"
Trip 6 - 60 Yellowfin for Capt. Deane - and he stopped fishing again very early. This was the first trip in the string. Capt. Deane stopped right where our buddies out of Ocean City were wrecking the fish for a couple weeks and it was non-stop as soon as the lines were in the water. The Clark Finney charter had a trip of the lifetime for them and couldn't believe the action.
