So I recently have been doing a lot of trout fishing in the Rahway River near my house and if I can manage to land another tonight I will have caught (and released) at least one trout every night for the past week. All fish have been pulled from the same hole, in fact I am surprised no one else has stumbled on It since at least a dozen stockies are usually visible and I have yet to encounter another angler.

As much as i have enjoyed the past week's consistency what I really want is to land one of the two breeders I have seen lurking in this same spot. Every night it's the same story - I throw every spinner, grub and ultra-lite lure I own and these two big girls will repeatedly follow my lure looking ready to strike and then get spooked for whatever reason and bail. Last night I also tried dead sticking with some powerbait and salmon eggs and didn't have any better luck.

Any tips on how I can get one of these breeders to commit or suggestions on a different type of lure that might yield better results would be much appreciated.

work it faster, don't give them as much time to look at and decide if they want to hit it or not

If you see them, they see you and its too late already. Throw a worm at em from far enough away that neither of you sees each other.

Are they swimming in circles and sipping air at the surface? Do they seem lethargic? With water temps on the rise and dissolved oxygen levels depleting below they're sustainable life levels they may be slowly dying therefore lacking the mojo to strike.

Before they perish I encourage you to sling a small shiner, killie or fathead in front of them or perhaps a huge juicy crawler. Also, be stealthy. If they don't strike live bait chances are they're on their way out. If you do catch them I encourage you to keep em bc they ain't gonna last much longer in the Rahway unless they find a deeeeep pool with a cool spring.

Throw them a gold ribbed hears ear, a stone fly or a streamer and hold on ;)

Every single stocked "breeder" I saw caught this year fell to orange power bait. I only fish with artificials but just reporting what I've seen.

Or green with sparkles. I had good luck with big wild trout by upsizing my spinner, and speeding up
