After a really slow weekend for us on the fluke grounds, my confidence was really getting low. The lack of drift along with the 5000 boats in the reach made it tough for us to get anything going. Today, My buddies David and Dom joined me as we took a long run in search of some fluke. First drop of the day was on some rough stuff in 45 feet of water. The water was 10 degrees cooler than it was in the back of the bay, however it seemed fishy as there was a lot of bait in the area. instantly Doms rod doubles over. We thought we had a 5 pounder coming up, but it was a double header of fish 10 and 14 inches.. Ouch! We continued to stick with it and continually built a bite. what began as a pick of shorts with an occasional keeper turned into an all out big fluke assault. Any bait dropped down was hammered right away for about a 1/2 hour straight until the tide finally died. In that span of we managed 12 keepers to 6 pounds! Most fish wanted meat, however pink shine grubs did catch a few. After that the tide began outgoing and our drift went from .6 knots to 1.5+. Ran home and docked around 1130. As a total, we had 17 keepers, only bringing 10 home, to 6 pounds 13 ounces caught me yours truly. Dom had 2 pigs, one at 5lbs 4oz, and another at 5lb flat. Great short trip before work with a great crew.
I was high hook with 8 keepers, just dragging meat with a pink skirt on a 3 way... That seemed to get the job done. David had 4and Dom had 5. Dom bucktailing pink shine, David bucktailing bluefish meat and nuke chicken 5 inch swimming mullets. Rod holder saw a ton of action, id put my rod down to net one of their fish and by the time I came back I had one on. Pictures as soon as I get my computer running.
