After yesterday's productive thresher trip, I decided to get out and do a little pike fishing before getting together with the family in the afternoon. Ended up starting at 1145am, and quickly realized my mistake as I began to walk the bank in my waders in 95 degree heat. Ended up catching a few pike before the blazing heat forced me to call it quits around 1pm knowing i had a long, hot walk back to the car.

I wear shorts under my waders. It does help a little. Eventually though your body starts to overheat since the waders don't allow your body to cool down. I've had days where I had to sit down and take a 5-10 min breather. I'm in good shape for my age but the heat can be tough. I know when I get back to my car and take my pulse, often I'm 130-140 beats per min. I crank the AC and cool down on the way home. Got to drink water too. Unfortunately you have to wear waders because that bankside vegetataion is rough with waist high poison ivy, stinging nettle not to mention all sorts of biting bugs.

Yeah, I definitely choose the waders over the ticks and poison ivy. I brought a few bottles of water but it wasn't enough. Going to make an effort to use the kayak more often...can probably get away with shorts as long as the launch is clear.

Nice fish man!! I took a buddy out Saturday morning for a couple hours and skunked out! No swings and misses, no hook ups, Nada. The kicker was seeing a nice 30" sitting in about 8" of water right were we were about to unload the boat, lol. I think he saw us coming and wasn't going to be fooled.....
