mike reynolds already posted but, we owe this to capt kevin gerrity and the anglers

as always kevin started preparing for the tournament weeks ago
the preparation and effort that he puts fourth is second to none

we started about 54 miles off and had no wind, we had to power drift for a few hours with no bites.we made a 15 mile wiggle and within short time had the bite..a very good bite, while we cleared the rods, lifted out the baskets, mike was down to the power pro and it was peeling off quickly.

the chase ensued and it was very obvious right away that this was a huge fish.after going through the guys too many times kevin got some line back and then it peeled off again and again.

we backed down for over five miles and three and a half hours, we got close twice but never got to see our opponent. the main line parted at 346 pm
we hooked up at 12;15..it got very quiet and we made another wiggle and stayed until 530 but that would be it for the jenny lee

my guess is that it was a huge thresher, but we will never know.

congradulations to the winners ..we switch over to our passion now

we start going to the edge very soon.

happy fathers day to those that it applies too.

Thanks Capt Dave and Capt Kevin for another great trip. I concur with your post on Kevin and both of your preparation for these trips, when you charter any trip but especially an offshore adventure you want effort, safety and a "chance" for that trip and / or fish of lifetime. You and Kevin provide all that and more on a consistent basis and will always have my business!
This trip didn't come easy with crew and tourney cancellations and we went with 4 anglers. We figured its ok a little extra expense but more room etc. Go figure we hook into that and having 6 would have been much better as that fish went through us like the runs! Started off with each guy on for 30 to15 minutes, then 10 then 5 then 30 seconds. We needed some 20 year gym guys which I assure you we are not.
Also thanks Capts Dave and Kevin for gearing up and taking turns on the beast as well.

Fish was a stubborn beast. we got close a dozen times but couldn't finish her off. kudos to the fish whatever it was. We fished it with harness, fished it Wicked Tuna Style, Dave backing down on it the whole time when he could. We would get to I am guessing 50 feet from the leader and then lose 50 feet over and over.
Also need to mention the Jenny Lee Tackle withstood the test of time.
Top Notch as always ! It held as long as it could it reliving it my first thought is we took too long to beat the fish but sleeping on it that fish couldn't be beat!
Great experience again on the JL.
Happy fathers day

And I was just about to thank you for not posting the canyon crack picture:eek:
That was just the beginning picture, when my arms were "fresh"....Seriously, as with my other post, First Class Operation on the Jenny Lee again. We gave it all we had with every body on the reel at one time or another and several times over and over and over and over......we battled something that was stronger than we were in the end..,..and that is fishing. I'll bank the memory of the battle and learn from it. Can not thank Dave and Kevin enough for their efforts to help us do what we could against a shark that would NOT quit!
