Had to share this photo of the biggest fish of my life. We found him somewhere in the ocean off NJ this past Tuesday while on my 23' Polar walkaround, "Drifter". Ate a whole bluefish and did not come in easily. Me on the rod, gaff and gun, my buddy Matt at the helm and on the leader. Great way to break in my new Kevin Bogan Fish Poison rod. Weighed in at 324.6 lbs. Got it done, and we'll be eating well for a year. Many goals reached that day, many lessons learned. Thanks, mother nature.

Fork length?

Nice fish. Was she empty or carrying?

Those big girls use their big pec fins to stay down. Boat in gear and plane her up! Stupid power that is steady and relentless at times. Any aerials?

It was a male specimen. Fight took the better part of 1.5 hours and LOTS of maneuvering. Should have lost it several times were it not for teamwork and perfectly rigged gear ;)

Thanks guys! I'm not usually one to post about my catches but this is a milestone after a lifetime of fishing. I really have my dad to thank for all the knowledge and ball-busting he imparted on me to make me a smart, safe and sometimes lucky fisherman.:D:D:D

Big fish, small boat, huge fun.

that's awesome. I haven't did any real shark fishing yet (except for some halfassed attempts surf fishing with no success) but i hope to this year finally give it a go.

congrats on that catch!

Good deal. Didn't see claspers on this tiny smartphone screen! Congrats on an epic catch! They're freakin delicious! Soy, ginger, brown sugar, olive oil and fresh thyme. Marinate for 20-30 min and slap on the barby... Add some bourbon or rum soaked pineapple and peaches on the grill and you're in business!

WOW. That recipe sounds insane! I usually just put some olive oil in a pan and cook it through, enjoying it's own inherent flavor. But I think I'll change my plan a bit ;)

For sure. I will definitely NOT be killing another fish like that for quite some time. We have more meat than we know what to do with. I don't even really like doing the catch and release thing, because who knows how badly fatigued the fish will be, gut hooking, etc. If I do, light tackle and circle hooks all the way.

This recipe will blow your mind. Just be sure to taste the marinade before soaking steaks. Find your preferred balance of salt and sweet. If you like a kick add sriracha to taste.

Very nice, good job, good eats,

The NJ state record Thresher shark 683lbs was caught on my boat "formally Kristin Marie" back in 2009 with Capt.Jeff at the helm.
