I decided that i am going to go with Owner hooks for Fluke season this year. Going to get away from the Gamakatsu. Owner is pretty damn sharp. The Gamakatsu are pretty sharp but to me it seems like its a one time use hook. They seem to dull pretty fast. They are made from thinner wire then the Owner. Never had one break on me but they have bent a few times. Other thing I noticed is the barb size. Its pretty small on the Gamakatsu compared to the Owner. I dropped a lot of nice fish last season and im wondering if the barb of the hook was the issue. Hook coming out during the violent head shakes seemed to be the problem. I know some of the ones that i dropped were just hanging on the bait and not really hooked good. So lets switch it up and see what happens. Maybe the larger barb and stronger hook will make the difference. I know they are more expensive but you gotta pay the cost to be the boss!:D:D

You don't need sharp hooks to hook a fluke. They are handy for foul hooking skates however.

I think owner are the best , always use them . But I could'nt find any baitholder type for my Gulps , so just for that I got some Gami's .

Yeah the ones i got where the 5311's. They are more or less octopus. Look exactly the same.
And i disagree. A sharp hook is needed. Getting that hook to penetrate the jaw and stay in there isnt a job for a weak un-sharp hook. Larger barb and super sharp is what you want and from what i can see and read Owner is the way to go

Gamakatsus are very brittle too. I'm using VMC now and they're great! Very sharp and not too expensive.

Just found this post and was thinking the same thing about the Gami's. What size 5311's do you use 3/0 or 4/0 and do they hold gulp OK without bait holder?
