Pushed off the dock bright and early accompanied by my 2 buddies as well as my old man. With such a beautiful day and with nothing to do we decided to spend all day on the ocean targeting those tasty Bottomfish. Began the day seabass fishing in 70 feet of water, nothing going on. Ran in to the 50 foot range up on the SH reef and it was lights out fishing. Stupid drop and reel fishing but you really needed to weed through the shorts (real midgets, some as small as 5 inches). After about 220 seabass we finally had enough to scrape out our 4 man, 40 fish limit. Even gulp baits did not stop the peewees, however fishing with gulp caught us a few fluke which Really shocked me as it is so early in the season. Next up, we took a ride out deep and got on a lump out in 130 feet of water. Here we put a beat down on the ling until the current died and we couldn't stay tight. In the 30 minutes of fishing we boxed 20 ling a solid flounder and a 24 inch cod caught by my dad, along with a few eels. Ran back to the bay and put the bucktails on, jigging by the ammo pier caught us a good amount shorts to 17 inches before we called it a day. Fluke only ate white, white 4inch gulp mullets, white skirts, white shrimp, as long as it was white, they ate it. No love on pink shine just yet. Great variety, as a ton of seabass, tog and ling were caught to go with a sprinkling of fluke, flounder and cod. Great day on the water along with a great crew. Back at it tomorrow.
