Had Larry Flukemaster and crew on for their annual opening day fluke trip. Ocean was nice to start and stayed that way the entire time we were out there. Fished a load of spots sorta locally and Ryan got our first keeper of the year, a nice 22" fish on a nuke chicken teaser. Bounced all over after we caught that keeper and found a short or two, a jumbo 4 spot, some dogfish and in the rough stuff a few seabass that went back. Lots of skates also...

Finished up in the river caught a couple shorts and a sundial, and Fred also snagged a short blackfish lol on a teaser...

Needless to say fluking was horrible - but we gave it hell... Things of course will get better... Back to seabass and stripers this week!

Sorry man, no photos of the 4 spot. It was about 16" long.

Gotta watch those 4 Spots when the DEC checks coolers.. Guys over on the NY LI fishing forum were screaming last year about misidentification from "officials".. Seems a few guys got tagged for "short fluke" while having 4Spots in the cooler.. One guy even got tagged for having a short when he had a Sundial. Pretty sad when everyday fishermen know the difference and the guys that get paid to enforce the regs don't. I doubt they would bother a charter captain, but these days, who knows.. bob

If ANY CO misidentified a fish and issues a summons they should look for other employment. That is ridiculous and if those aforementioned summons' were truly issued I hope the alleged violators took their case up in court.

That's RIDICULOUS.
